Flooded Beans?

Friday, June 12th, 2015

Since last week beans have progressed slowly.  Most advanced fields are at the second trifoliate. Any weed escapes are starting get to be a size they need to be controlled as soon as fields dry up. This past week a lot of fields have been flooded. Beans and corn can be submerged for 48-96 hours. If temperatures are cloudy and cooler survival rate is greater. After 48 hour oxygen levels in the soil are depleted.  There have been cases were soybeans have been submerged for 8 days and still survived.

The biggest thing is to have a look at your fields. A number of no till fields have frost damage showing up that was not detected earlier as no one looked.
