Planting progress continued this week with approximately 90% of the crop in the ground. About 60% of the crop has emerged. Most of the unplanted acres are in the Niagara region. This region experienced some very heavy localized thunderstorms last weekend. Heavy rainfall has delayed planting and is causing emergence issues. In general the crop is rated “good” overall. It has been a cool and dry week for most of Ontario so crop development is slow. Areas North of London continue to be drier than normal. In this area growers are still reporting Bean Leaf Beetle feeding. Weed control in the crop is quite variable depending on the amount of rainfall individual fields received. This next week is expected to be warmer with temperatures in the mid 20’s with chances for precipitation mid week.
