Ontario finally received some wide spread rains this past week. This was received very well by the crop. Most areas did see a significant improvement in crop conditions. Generally the Ontario crop can now be rated as good again. The majority of the crop is in the R2 to R3 stage with pods forming on the early planted fields. Soybean pests are still active. These include Bean Leaf Beetle, Spider Mites, Soybean Aphids and Japanese Beetles. The recent rains should help reduce the stress from these pests. In areas that were dry at planting, there are many weed escapes. Growers will need to wait until harvest time to manage these weed issues. The weather forecast for the coming week is expected to be slightly cooler. Rain is expected in the middle of the week. In most cases the crop can still use additional rainfall.
